Referral fee

Also: placement fee · move-in fee

A referral fee is the amount a senior-living community pays a referral aggregator or placement agent when a family that agency referred signs a lease and moves in, typically 50–120% of the first month's rent.

Why it matters in senior living

In practice that is commonly $3,500 to $12,000 per move-in, highest in memory care. It is paid on top of the operator's own marketing spend, and because the fee follows the family, operators sometimes pay it even when the family had already found the community another way.

One avoided fee is the unit of value for AI visibility work: a community that is named by the AI and contacted directly keeps the fee. Most pricing in this category, including Nuovee's, is anchored to that number.
